The YouthMove15 project promotes child-friendly 15-minute cities by integrating children and young people’s (CYP) needs into urban and transport planning. Its three objectives are: (1) understanding CYP’s mobility and access needs, (2) envisioning enhancements with CYP for a 15-minute city using innovative tools, and (3) fostering cross-cultural collaboration and knowledge sharing. Using a mixed-methods approach, YouthMove15 engages CYP and local stakeholders across five cities—Brussels, Budapest, Groningen, Lisbon, and Oxford—to co-create solutions and test innovative tools, such as VR and interactive games. In Brussels, two living labs will be set up with children (ages 6-14) from vulnerable and car-centric communities at De Mozaïek in Brussels-City, Paviljoenschool and De Kleurdoos in Schaerbeek. VUB and TADA will run a 1-2 year program, including mobility surveys, creative mapping, walk-alongs, gamified tools, on-street art activities, AR workshops, and an inter-Living Lab video competition. Schools will act as local hubs, promoting proximity and engaging caregivers and stakeholders in co-creation. The municipalities of Brussels-City and Schaerbeek, along with Brussels Mobility, Perspective Brussels and local NGOs, will support this process.
